Stephen F. Biegenzahn
Nature of Practice
Stephen Biegenzahn is “Of Counsel” to the Law Firm of Mirman, Bubman & Nahmias. For more than thirty years, Mr. Biegenzahn has concentrated his practice in bankruptcy and insolvency law. Mr. Biegenzahn obtained both his undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford University, getting his Juris Doctor degree in 1974. Mr. Biegenzahn served in the military as a Judge Advocate General for the United States Marine Corp. from 1975 until 1978, at which time he was released at the rank of Captain.
He was admitted to the bar in 1974, and is admitted to practice in the State Courts of California, as well as the U.S. District Courts in the Central, Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of California. Steve was also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Military Appeals in 1975.
Steve appears in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and has an "AV" rating, the highest professional rating awarded by that publication.
Steve is also a Court Appointed and Certified Mediator.
Prior to joining Mirman, Bubman & Nahmias in an “Of Counsel” capacity in 2017, Steve practiced on his own since 2005.
Steve’s practice has focused in the following areas:
- Bankruptcy
Representation of individual and corporate debtors in both Chapter 7 and 11 cases, as well as creditors holding secured and unsecured claims, creditor committees, and bankruptcy trustees. He has also prosecuted and defended numerous complaints seeking denial or revocation of discharge, as well as the non-dischargeability of particular debts.
- Receiverships
Has represented receivers in various types of receiverships, including corporate dissolutions, appointments in aid of execution of judgment, as well as purchases of receivership estates.
- Assignments for Benefit of Creditors
Purchase and Sale Agreements of operating companies; wind down of failed companies; prosecution and defense of preference and fraudulent transfer claims; representing assignors, assignees for the benefit of creditors, and purchasers of both businesses and assets.
- Bankruptcy
Representation of creditors in Plan and Claim litigation or contests, relief from stay, and non-dischargeability.
- Litigation
Prosecuted and defended claims for judicial and non-judicial foreclosures; extensive practice seeking pre-judgment remedies and fraudulent transfers.
